New season, new teams, new players, welcome back to another season of Muslim Basketball! Last season we saw amazing talent week by week as the top players in the division played their hearts out trying to lead their teams to glory. These players went the extra mile for their team and without them on the court their teams would fall in shambles. The effect they have on the court can be seen through both what does and does not show up on the stat sheets; it's the little things they do that help fuel the fire of their teams. Through their leadership and great play, week in and week out, they hope to do everything in their power to elevate their teams to the next level. These aren't any ordinary players, these are MVP caliber type of players. Welcome to this week's edition of the KP MVP Ladder.
1. Daniel Goldberg, Mombasa
New king on the block to top of this week’s MVP ladder, Daniel’s been doing great things for Mombasa all season long on both sides of the court and is emerging as a serious favorite to take home the title this season through his consistent play. He finished this week off with 8 points, 16 boards, 3 assists, and 6 blocks. Definitely the toughest big man to go against in the league along with big O but Daniel’s been doing bigger things this season thus far and Mombasa just keeps on rolling.
Last Week’s Ranking: 2
2. Mujtaba John S, Jakarta
Just in case if no one else has realized, Mujtaba is now the all time leading scorer in D2 MB history with over 1000 points in D2 alone and over 3000 in his career. We’re talking about a guy that’s been in the league for some time now who is still tearing it up like it’s nobody’s business. He finished this week with 26 points on 67% shooting, and 5 boards. Jakarta lost a close one but man are they in good hands with Mujtaba leading the way.
Last Week’s Ranking: 3
3. Omar Abbassi, Islamabad
Something’s up with Islamabad and I can’t pinpoint what it is. As a team they couldn’t knock down a single 3 this week and didn’t look as dominant as we’re used to seeing them. Big O struggled in this one from the field shooting 10% and finishing with 2 points but tacking on 14 boards and 4 assists to help his team. Islamabad will be just fine but if they’re going to make it in the long run they’re going to need to find a way to be more efficient on both sides of the court.
Last Week’s Ranking: 1
4. Moayad Abulhuda, Amman
Moayad’s still got his flow going finishing with 17 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists. He continues to lead his team in great victories against some solid teams. Big time game winner by Omar Qasem to end this one but it looks like the captain’s giving it his all this season averaging 17 points and a career high 6.2 boards this season. Amman’s in good hands and they’re a team that can go far if they keep clicking the way they have been halfway through the season.
Last Week’s Ranking: 5
5. Kenneth Ziem, Córdoba
Cordoba’s been the team that no one has been talking about this season. They’ve quietly gotten off to a great 4-1 start and have looked solid on both ends of the court. Captain Kenneth has been having himself a great season so far averaging 15.8 points and 11 boards halfway through the season. Someone needs to take a closer look at this team because they already have 2 wins against 2 of the top teams in the standings to this point and they’re quietly making a name for themselves. They have a tough stretch of games ahead of them, it’ll be interesting to see how Kenneth and Co. fare in the games to come.
