1. Patrick Jaramillo, Kazan

Possibly Pat’s worst game of his entire MB career going 0-12 from the field and finishing with 3 turnovers. That didn’t stop him from having his impact on the game though as he had 6 boards, 4 assists, and a block. I did not get the chance to see this game but from the feedback I’ve gotten it seems as if Billal who’s come under heat for being in this top 5 ranking had a stellar defensive game along with his fellow teammates who game planned to lock Pat down. Pat still remains on top but the margin of separation has now closed between him and #2.

2. Abdul Mutaleb Popal, Palermo

Another very efficient game from Abdul finishing with 24 points on 50% shooting from the field. He tacked on 7 boards, 3 assists, and a steal to lead Palermo to it’s 7th straight win. This team along with Damascus are the hottest teams in the league right now and it’s got a huge part to do with Abdul’s play as of late. He has the supporting cast around him he needs to help him and his team be more successful in Yaqob and Bilal. I’ve seen these guys play and they play at a very fast paced level which explains their #1 offense in the league. No one has really been mentioning their name as potential finalists are champions this season; I can see it happen so long as Abdul is on the court.

3. Mujtaba Shahsamand, Tripoli

This man plays at another level every single week, whether it shows up in the stat sheet or not you know he’s left his footprint on any game. He finished with 19 points on 7/8 shooting from the field and added on 6 assists and 4 boards and another Tripoli win. This is the right supporting cast for Mujtaba as well with Yousef, Visar, and Jean all playing great as of late. Tripoli is another sneaky team that could make it far into the playoffs. Their games in the later rounds will come down to making one play and having Mujtaba on your team for that one play can make all the difference in the world.

4. Abdelrahman Moustafa, Tehran

The young rookie seems to have locked up the rookie of the year award with his great play as of late. He finished this week with 25 points, 9 boards, 7 assists, 4 steals, and a block. It’s unfortunate his team sits at 3-6 which is largely due to attendance issues from his teammates but this guy plays at another level every week. He almost helped orchestrate an amazing win last week playing with only 4 guys against a top dog team in Jeddah and probably would have won the game had they had rest or maybe even a 5th guy as they led for the entirety of the game and only lost in the final seconds of the game. He’s averaging a league and record high 7.4 assists. The next highest assist average in D2 was in 2013 at 6.9 assists per game. This guy plays like a true point guard and has the potential to be one of the all time greats in this league. Looking forward to seeing Tehran in the playoffs with hopefully a full team.

5. Rasa Nassim, Mombasa

Not the typical dominant Mombasa season which is why Raza hasn’t been on the list till this point. Nonetheless, Raza is quietly having one of his best seasons in the league. He finished last week with 18 points, 9 boards, 2 assists, and 2 steals. His quickness and agility on the court will make Mombasa a tough opponent in the playoffs along with the talents of Paul and Mo. Raza’s averaging career highs in points and rebounds which just goes to show you the talent of the league this season for him to be sitting at 5. One week left in the regular season, playoffs are right around the corner!

From the top five teams, Aytac and Zain need to be in the conversation.
