Week 9 | 9-0 | 1 | Talk about a three game stretch, Mombasa, Islamabad, Dhaka and escaping without a scratch…This team looks poised to make a significant run. Dominant performances against Mombasa (albeit without Raza) and Dhaka, while escaping again Islamabad. Their defense has been absolutely tremendous all season long, holding teams to just 36 points per game and not succumbing more than 46 in any game this season. (Stat guys, check for me if anyone other team hasn’t given up 50+ yet). Offense isn’t the best and their average is a touch skewed by putting up 69+ against 3 bad teams this year, but nevertheless, they have the firepower to pull away in games. The win against Dhaka was extremely impressive because they were able to find a small run to go up by 7 or 8, and with their defense, thats plenty to get the job done. They have one more test before securing the |
Week 6 | 6-0 | 3 | I love their team, and I put them at 3rd only because of strength of schedule, which hasn’t been tough for them. Let’s see how they finish off the season. Touch, aggressive, gritty bunch that plays together. |
Week 5 | 5-0 | 6 | Utter smacking of what I believed was a terrific Cairo squad. Nobody was contesting anything from Ayatc, credit to him for making them pay. As great as Aytac was, oh man was Faraz Chaudry unbelievable. For a guy his size to give that effort to hold Goldberg to just 8 points, in a game where he was by far the biggest and best front court player, really inspiring play. Dude gave 200% on every defense possession, fighting for position against a much bigger and stronger player. No way should have Goldberg only had 8 and no way should Suba have won by 34, but both that happened as a direct result of terrific play from Suba. Hats off to them. |
Week 4 | 4-0 | 7 | Four wins against four of the bottom five. Nevertheless, they’ve done it with emphasis. Still need to see them consistently beat good competition. Might not see that until week 7. |
Week 3 | 3-0 | 9 | Solid game, did what they should to one of the worst teams in the league. Still, Aymen and Aytac don’t scare me tooooo much. They have a good group, but someone is going to have to really step up and be the guy when they start playing stiffer competition. |
Week 2 | 2-0 | 9 | Seems like a pretty similar squad to last season’s second overall seed entering the playoffs. They were one of the best defensive teams in the league, but struggled to score at times. They have a whole season together under their belt, look for their PPG to be in the upper half of the league, while that Points Allowed number stays in the top 5. That’s a very good combination to have - now it’s just about finding ways to get those timely baskets that win the important games. Big time let down in the first round of the playoffs last season, they look hungry to bounce back. |
