1. Patrick Jaramillo, Kazan
New season, new year, same Pat. Interesting stat here- Pat has now scored 30+ in the season opener of each of his three seasons he’s played in the league. He torched Palermo this week out-dueling another great scorer in AMP. He tacked on11 boards and 2 blocks to his impressive season debut and currently tied all scorers for most points. After coming up just short in last year’s MVP race, to Mr. Abdelhadi whom we hope is having a speedy recovery, Pat looks to run away with this year’s title and is off to a great start.
2. Kenny Tansey, Jerusalem
Kenny’s back after a three year hiatus and he’s here to compete this time around. After going winless in his first two seasons Kenny gets his first ever win with a team who has also had their own struggles in the past. He finished with 30 points on and impressive 69% shooting from the field. Jerusalem’s finally got that star they’ve been lacking in seasons past, look for Kenny to continue to make noise as the season goes along.
3. Luke Jensen, Cordoba
I’ve always been a fan of Luke’s game and when he shows up Cordoba has always been a threat to reckon with. He starts this season off with 19 points on 70% shooting from the field along with 9 boards just missing the double double. Cordoba’s always had a good amount of firepower but they haven’t been able to make enough noise in the playoffs and continue to get knocked out early on. Maybe this is the season Luke and co take the next step forward?
4. Billal Biggz Abbassi, Medina
It was a tough call this offseason but Billal jumped off the family trailer picking up his cousin and former MVP on the way and headed west to Medina. Billal brings much needed firepower to an interesting Medina squad this season, his talent seemed to mesh very well week 1 in Medina’s season opener. He finished the game with 17 points on 60% shooting, 2 blocks, and 2 steals. There’s a good group of guys on this team, it would be interesting to see how they perform in the next week’s coming.
5. Moe Rayyan, Baghdad
Baghdad has really turned things around from two seasons ago. A big part of that has to do with Moe Rayyan’s excellent play since joining the league. One of my favorite games in recent MB history was Baghdad’s thrilled against Cairo last season whereMoe finished with 32 points and hit some clutch 3s late to lead his team to a comeback win. He finished this season’s opening game with 19 points and 8 boards and led Baghdad in a very close back and forth win over a young Lahore squad. Moe’s talent has always been there but Baghdad has needed another piece to finally climb over the top. Will the trio of Moe, Amir, and Mark finally lead Baghdad to the top?
