moose, are you trying to say from the 12 teams that fill up the league, not all are competitive? lol

here is another issue with thursday nights -
a lot of guys work in the city, or far away from the pal
lots of traffic on 80, 46, 287 during 4-7pm
then every team requests to have 9pm games
then all of a sudden no team can play at 7pm
then games get forfeited or play 4 on 5 or need to use 2 guest passes in one game

There are a lot of different reasons why people want Thursday nights, and vice versa. I'm finding reasons such as family, JAMS Softball taking up the weekend, wanting to sleep in on Saturdays, etc etc etc.

But if we could house everything on multiple weeknights, we obviously would. As of right now, we have no choice but to have a joint Thursday-Saturday setup. It actually works out well as Saad mentioned given the opportunity to accommodate more D1 teams on a Saturday. However, even if the timeslots equated to each other, it's already been determined that the Muslimah Athletic Participants had a stronger link to D2 than to D1.

Just some other notes about scheduling..

We worked hard with JAMS FF during Fallball to avoid 99% of overlap. I personally scheduled games for individual players by considering their personal commute from home-to-MSP and also Torpey-to-MSP.

Similarly, for the upcoming season, we found Saturday mornings to be clear of any JAMS overlap, as JAMS SB games are played on Sundays. Of course, make-up games are played on Friday nights or Saturday mornings, but I'm sure JAMS SB can accommodate the multi-sport players.

Also, keep in mind there were so many rain-outs during JAMS SB 2011 that teams had to play multiple softball games in one day or in one weekend anyway. If you are already playing softball, you inherently risk killing an eventual weekend with a makeup for a rain-out, so I am not sure how basketball gets in the way.

Why not mix D1 and D2. Have games for both on Saturdays or Thursdays.

A couple reasons, at least:

Difficulties in scheduling. Teams would have to keep both Thursdays and Saturdays open. Complaints from multiple teams wanting the same time slot.

Consistencies in refereeing. We feel that referees will have an easier time in refereeing the same style of games sequentially rather than jumping from one to the other and back again.

at the end of the day we want to play ball, however most players are saying saturdays are not good and if u decide to schedule for saturdays we will be losing ALOT of players thats have been part of this league for a while.

u still have ttime to change the days so y not try finding a different location that will suit the day and time for the majority of the players. y not try to have it in the same complex as winterball 2011, they have 3 different courts. in one night it can suit 18 teams.

ali brother .. i would love for things to be as simple as you think they are .. unfortunately, realistically, its not like that ..

as far as losing A LOT of players .. please show me your analysis of how you got that information .. even if saturdays 'are not good' it doesn't mean players wont show .. maybe they'd just rather have it on another day

Summer 08 and Winter 10 both were on Saturdays and both filled up. iA we look to repeat and expand this season

My first season was Summerball 10, it was 12 teams, and expanded to 14 due to waiting list captians and the flexibility of the court availability as it was on Sunday from 1pm-5pm. JAMS had a softball league running concurrently on the weekends. Softball was April-July, Bball was May-August. As I remember it, there were no major issues with attendance at the basketball games.

I dont remember any complaints on the forums regarding the time-slots, or it being on Sunday or it conflicting with JAMS as a problem.

You also have to keep into consideration as Ed had mentioned previously that many people prefer the late time slots for commuting purposes, and everyones requests cannot be accomodated. Also, there are people who havent played in "week night" seasons because they travel often for work during the week. So there are many factors involved, its not as black and white as the picture some of you are painting.

However, having said all that - we are looking into the availability of a 2nd week night at the facility.

I know its not easy but in my 3 seasons since i have been part of this family, this is the only season that this has came with time conflict. But wat i am saying is try to have both d1 and d2 on weeknights but on different days, even if it means two different gyms. I rememeber when it was on thursday nights we used to watch other peoples games but when it was on sunday, people had football games, people had this and that and it seemed like no one was watching.
