Last season’s champs bring back the full squad in attempt to make another run at the chip. Moe Rayyan led the way with 15 and the Patel brothers combined for 24. When your entire team can average double digits in points, that makes you extremely tough to beat.

Ight Hart, that’s how you feel? 75% from three for the MB vet and 50% as a team. Nothing new here, Kazan wants the chip.

Beirut

After a devasting first round exit, Beirut did not play kind to their week 1 opponent. Kenny J balled out with 31 points on 63% shooting. Part of their success last season was due to newcomer Luis Torres having a great season. I expect them to remain near the top of the standings all season.

Beware MB, When Moayad is going downhill, one of the best players in the league. On another note, death taxes and Omar Mana double doubles.

Losing in the finals definitely left a sour taste in their mouth, and unfortunately for Granada, they were the recipient of a Week 1 beatdown. Shafic with 25 while Towfeek and Ahmed each added 18. This team can score and loves fast break

Dhaka

Stealing Zain and Idris from Granada was criminal as the two combined for 30 points. This ain’t your older brother’s Dhaka team. But then again if they have not been the same since they lost Farzad. But hey they got the Week 1 dub.

Tripoli

With Ali H being the new heir to Tripoli, he was able to showcase his scoring prowess as did Connor Fox. In addition to Jean and Yaqob handling things in the paint, expect this team to compete again this season.

Return of the Pat! Big second half from these guys to avoid starting 0-1 and a big double double from Muhammad O with 23 and 12. I wouldn’t expect these quiet games from Pat too often.

9
Sana'a
Sana'a

After hovering around .500 last season Sana’a came out swinging against one of if not, the most formidable defensive team in the league.

I did not expect this from the Abbassi family. Billal deciding to join forces with his brothers and cousins should make for a great 30:30 but did not result in the win.

Lost their point guard and best scorer but held their own. Surrendering a 12-point half-time lead isn’t going to bode well with commissioner Himey. Very difficult schedule moving forward.

It’s like a broken record with this team every season, Ed plays they have a chance. He doesn’t, automatic L.

Ahmad Saleh may be regretting his decision to leave Lahore. Schedule does not look any easier.

It’s a family reunion, who we introducing, who we introducing?!?!!? Apparently, the entire Yanes family.

Welcome back Moiz Latif. Moiz, Omar Singer and Anas Najib is an impressive Big 3. Too bad they only had two of the three on Thursday.

Ouch, losing by 30 plus is never fun.

17

Captain Danny B spent the offseason recruiting and apparently pursuing a music career. Derrick Mack and Omar Hussein must carry this team if they want to compete.

Their point total for the game was nearly matched by Lahore’s second half.
