istanbul/fez - tied game at half .. ammar saymeh gets fouled with like a second left behind the 3 at which the game was tied .. hit 1 of 3 free throws .. fez no time for a good shot

bukhara/jeddah - a good game throughout .. bukhara made a bunch of comebacks .. but isaiah held it down at the end along with the rest of jeddah

jerusalem/alexandria -

granada/cordoba - no ahmad hassan for the first 5 minutes .. granada is up 10 points .. ahmad hassan comes in and as usually shoots lights out .. BUTTTTTTTTTTT huge props to the rest of cordoba squad .. ahmad dished the ball left and right and cordoba was hitting every single shot .. farhad came up big at the end to give granada a chance
*** side note .. PARTICIPATION POINTS people !!! granada started the game down 3 .. lost by 2

cairo/kabul - kabul had this game locked up .. chris diaz was hitting his shots .. cairo was down big time .. but they chipped away and at the end, tied up the game .. kabul players fouled out leaving them playing 4 on 5 in OT

baghdad/medina -

cairo-kabul: kabul started out fast and cairo looked lost and confused... abdullah had 9 points in like the first 5 minutes... 1st half kabul outrebounded cairo and had us on the ropes, but puneet's hot shooting kept cairo w/in striking distance... We trailed by 12 at halftime... second half abdullah wasn't as good, and neither was chris, although he hit some timly threes to keep them up... eventually cairo erased the deficit and led with little time left, only to see that lead evaporate and the game tied on a layup by abdullah. One of the kabul players made a bonehead play towards the end of the second half, taking an intentional foul when he had 4 fouls already, fouling out and making his team play with 4 players. That proved costly, as chris was locked up in overtime and cairo ran away with the game... Not a pretty game, but then again, we haven't had one of those since week 1...

Points were big in each game:
1. Alexandria started down 0-3 because of a shirt violation. Down 5-7 late instead of 2-4 made a huge difference.
2. Fez had a shirt violation and started down 0-3. Lost 49-48.
3. Granafa started down 0-3 for participation points, lost 81-79.
4. Kabul started down 0-3 for participation points, lost in OT.
5. Bukhara started down 0-6 for participation points, only lost by 9.

Alexandria/Jerusalem: Alexandria only had 5 players show up (pg wasn't feeling good SMH should be banned from the league imo, Karim got married - Congrats buddy) and were down early 19-10. Used their timeouts early and often because expended a lot of energy keeping pace. Alexandria slowed down the game and it was a gritty game, with Jeruslam leading by like 5-6 points most of the way. Andre had a nice game, pulling up short of the basket several times and making little 5 foot jumpers. Jerusalem was never really threatened in the last 2 minutes. Again, alexandria wasnt patient on the offensive end, with guys trying to dribble penetrate through the zone instead of pass around and through it for the open shot. More patience/discipline and smarter offense coudlve led to a different outcome.

Also, Jerusalem cant rebound. Smile Jerusalem sucks, Alexandria just sucks worse Big Grin When does winterball start?

Fez/Istanbul: Aymen had a huge game for Istanbul. Whenever they needed a big basket he seemed to get it. It was a back and forth game, nailbiting. Laraib had a bunch of 3s, but Fez consistently ignored Alat in a game where he was being guarded in the zone by someone 7 inches shorter than him. He was begging for the ball, he would get looked at and next thing you know another 3-pointer was in the air. If Fez got him involved the outcome of this game wouldve been different. Fez was up late, with a couple of chances to seal it at the line, but missed several free throws. Istanbul tied it late at 48. Fez came up with nothing on the other end and Istanbul had one more chance late. Missed shot, with the ball heading out of bounds aymen saved it, Ammar was bear-hugged in a hectic few seconds, the ref had no choice but to call a foul. Made 1 of 3. Fez didnt get a shot off with the final 1.2 seconds. Istanbul out-hustled Fez in the last minute for the victory. Conclusion: Istanbul sucks, Fez just sucks worse.Tongue

Baghad vs Medina - Baghdad pretty much had control the entire way. They jumped to an early lead and never gave it up. The closest I think we got was 48-44 with about 4 or 5 minutes left. Anwar played really well on both ends, one of the better defensive players in our league imo. Tayyab got a lot of second chance opportunities. Hazborn hit some big shots. Ariel played well as usual although it was one of his more quite games. The rest of the guys played good D and rebounded the ball well. Props to team Baghad on the W, you guys gave us a lot of trouble this season.

Cordoba vs Granada - I think Cordoba held it down pretty well the first 5 minutes w/out Ahmed. Amro played really well he must have dropped at least 15. Wassay hit some really big shots. Ahmed had his usual 30 + performance but props to the rest of the guys on making some huge plays. Akbar had probably the play of the game with a steal and finished with about 15 seconds left. Dave had a nice block with about 2 or 3 seconds left. The fact that a #14 team beat a # 3 team just goes to show how balanced this season was.

Congrats to all the winners and to the losers we begin our count down for Winter 2011 inshaAllah !!

All year Cordoba has been criticized for not being able to finish off games and blowing it in the final minutes, but when it mattered most so far they came up big against Granada. Everyone for Cordoba who was on the court in those final minutes stepped up and did what they needed to win that game. Three very memorable moments for those who missed it "The Steal" Akbar got a huge steal at midcourt took it to the basket for an easy lay in, "The Shot" Adam got the ball downlow and hit a big shot over the bigger granda bigs off the glass, and "The Dance" Ahmad Hassan showed off his moves at center court after the big win to cap off a huge upset.

Agreed. The biggest winning margin of the day was 11 points, and that was a game between the 8 and 9 seeds.

Much respect to Cordoba. All their players stepped up for the big upset. You guys wanted it more than we did. Good luck the rest of the way.

Bukhara - Jeddah

Jeddah started the game 6-0 due to Bukhara's stats violations, and jumped out to a 26-10 lead. They went absolutely cold after that and Bukhara went on a 7-0 run to end the first half, down 26-17. Bukhara continued the onslaught to start the second half as Jeddah was confused on both ends of the court. A 12-2 run gave Bukhara its first lead of the game at 29-28, highlighting an overall 19-2 run spanning both halves. Muhammad Qureshi was instrumental at the end of this run, hitting pull up 3s, driving the lane for circus layups, and getting a few assists. Bukhara was pumped, but Jeddah weathered the storm and reeled off 6 straight points to go up 34-29. They went up by 10 but Bukhara scored in bunches yet again and cut it to 5 quickly. Bukhara started getting into foul trouble as time was winding down, so it became a march to the free throw line where Jeddah surprisingly did well. Bukhara had Mubeen Quraishi and Shamir Hill both foul out to end the last 1-2 minutes playing 4 on 5, sealing their fate. Overall a great, emotional game.

JAK, thanks a lot bro. It really could have gone either way. You were really clutch at the free throw line, too, I don't even know if you missed one.

Amre was huge for us at the beginning of the game man. When Ahmad came in (from what I remember) the score was like 20-18 or something with Granada up. I know it was a 2 point lead. Then when Ahmad came in they started to pull away a little bit. But then of course Ahmad scores in bunches so he kept us within striking distance. The second half we did something that we haven't done all season. We played Defense. Granada also had some uncharacteristic turnovers too. They still scored on us even though we played good D though. We had no answer for Farhad. He probably had close to 30 points, maybe more. Good game guys. By the way, at the beginning of that game I was guarding Balawal Sohail. I've never felt so helpless on the basketball court in my life. Just thought I would share that.
